AMY MAKES HISTORY

Amy Truesdale the Stoke on Trent Sports Personality of the year and Disabled Taekwondo Player made History this weekend, by winning a Bronze medal in the first ever WTF Para Taekwondo World Championships held in Baku the capital Azerbaijan. This is the first ever-Martial art to Trial a Para Disabled Sport with the Intention of it featuring as a full Olympic Medal sport in London 2012.

Amy travelled with her coach Peter Johnson to Baku last weekend to Arrive with the British Olympic team who were competing in the Taekwondo World Team event at the same venue.

Amy after her arrival in Baku met Olympic IOC Officials along with dignitaries from Korea and Azerbaijan. Amy competed on the Wednesday in the Women’s Semi final and was narrowly beaten by a French opponent who went on to win the final.

Coach Peter Johnson could not believe that Amy had won a Medal in the first ever Para Taekwondo event , Amy has worked hard over the last few years and her disability has not hinderd her in any way in this martial art , the conditions were tough in Azerbaijan , not only the heat to contend with but the partisan crowds and the new electronic scoring system only just released for this event which Amy had not had time to practice with , but she did come away with Bronze in a world event and the way can only be forward now.

NEW BTCB CLASS 2 CENTRE REFEREES FOR SCOTLAND

At the recent weekend long BTCB Class 2 Centre Referee Course in Manchester, all Central Taekwondo Academy candidates passed the course and have become the only fully qualified centre referees in Scotland to be trained in the new WTF competition rules.  It was intensive referee training for 2 full days with practical and theory exams.  Angie Bailey particularly impressed the course tutors and was asked to act as a centre referee at the British Championships.  Angie went on to do a great job refereeing at the Championships and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  She is now looking forward to the next event.
